We have a celebrity in our midst, and it’s none other than Pn Noorizan Mohamed, Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan 2021!
This soft spoken lady was also conferred the Tokoh Guru Daerah Hulu Langat 2016 and Tokoh Guru Negeri Selangor 2018.
So, we asked her 10 very important questions to get to know her better. Here we go…
1. How long have you worked at LeapEd and what do you do?
This is my 6th year working at LeapEd. I started off as an Education Partner in 2016 and I am now an Education Advisor since 2018.
2. Why did you decide to become a teacher?
It’s simple - my passion in teaching children and I am inspired by them.
3. What’s the best thing about being a teacher/headmistress?
I watched my students grow and excel in the various activities and programmes that we planned. The best part for me was when they finished their studies and served and contributed to their country.
4. What inspires you?
As I am the third daughter in the family with 5 younger siblings, I used to play school with them and taught them Mathematics, English and BM. My late father wanted all his daughters, 4 of us to become teachers and that was my inspiration. In the end, my sisters and I became teachers!
5. In your mind, what do you think is the most important ingredient to be an excellent teacher?
I think the willingness to learn to become lifelong learners and adapting to changes is an important element to become excellent teachers.
6. What are some traditions you have for the First Day of School?
When I was a Principal, my favourite traditions were:
- 1 Student - 1 Table, 1 Chair and a set of textbooks.
- A banner placed outside the school with the words “Welcome back to School”.
7. If you could pass on any wisdom to your students or teachers, what would you share?
I have always believed in ‘Bekerja sebagai Satu Ibadat’ (Work as Worship), and this mindset will definitely help anyone to succeed.
I also believe in ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you’ – the same way we want our children to succeed, other parents feel the same way as well.
8. What is a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
My hobby is collecting pestle & mortar (lesung) from around the world. I have about 60 sets from Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Peru, England, Korea, Germany, India, Turkey, Cairo and Singapore.
9. If you did not become a teacher, what do you think you would be now?
I had a choice to take up either the Diploma Sains & Pendidikan Course or the Town and Country Planning course. So, if I didn’t become a teacher, I would have been a Town and Country Planner, planning for my dream town!
10. How would you describe yourself?
That’s simple enough. I am not only hardworking but I also work smart, I am committed to anything that I do and I also have a positive outlook and thinking.
